: The Tetrapylon
The Tetrapylon made up of a square platform (18 m) with foursquare pedestals at the corners. Each pedestal consist of four pink granite one-piece columns imported from Egypt, carrying Corinthian crowns, architraves and friezes topped by a ceiling decorated with very fine shiny colored geometric objects. A statue of four façades erected in the center of each pedestal.
The Tetrapylon is an architectural solution as a crossroad of many streets in Palmyra to hide the 10 degrees turning between the two sections of the main avenue.

The Tetrapylon is an architectural monument erected in the center of an oval piazza where the main roads of the city intersected. It aims to reduce the visual distortion of the straight long streets by focusing on special aesthetic specifications points, as well as to hide the deviation between the two sections of the main street were are not on one axes. It also aims to guide the traffic towards a secondary street, and finally to achieve a very simple aesthetic transmission of the human sight from a scene to another.
